An uncorrected proof, with a clean interior with no markings. Softcover with trace signs of shelf wear. Tightly bound. Clean spine with no discoloration or wrinkling. A lovely gift for a fan of historical fiction or Anne Rice’s writings.
Writer Harry Sidebottom completed his Master’s thesis on Herodian, with a special interest in the years AD 235-238. He returned to this interest in “Throne of the Caesars” with “Iron & Rust” as Book I of the series. In a 2014 interview with Parmenion Books, Sidebottom discussed the pleasure found in the challenging differences of ancient customs, laws and morality that are so strange to modern times: “Mary Renault was right when she said something on the lines of the pleasure of reading and writing historical fiction comes from the tension between what is universal to humanity and what is specific to a time and place. In some ways the Romans were much like us, but in others completely alien.”
Anne Rice was no stranger to the history of the Roman world. Her Vampire Chronicle novels “Pandora” and “Blood and Gold” explored the emperors, customs and politics of Roman society. Her “Christ the Lord” novels, historical fiction about Jesus’ life, explored Roman occupation.
