The Wings of the Morning

Franklin Center, Pennsylvania: Franklin Library, 1990. First Edition. Full Leather. Fine / No Jacket as Issued. Item #5313

A beautiful grey leather First Edition SIGNED by actor and author, Tom Tryon. In fine unread condition. With gold-gilt cover designs and page edges, and bound-in silk bookmark. By the author of "The Other," "Harvest Home," "Night of the Moonbow," "Crowned Heads," and "Night Magic."

Tryon attended Yale and served in the Navy during WWII before pursuing a career in acting, appearing alongside stars such as John Wayne and Charlton Heston, voicing a Walt Disney character, and taking a role in the cult sci-fi film "I Married a Monster from Outer Space." He left Hollywood after working on "The Cardinal" in 1963, publicly stating that the abuse he endured from director Otto Preminger drove him out of the industry.

Tryon then shifted to film production, most notably producing Dalton Trumbo’s "Johnny Got His Gun" in 1971, and soon began a successful writing career. Several of his novels were adapted for film and television, featuring actors such as John Ritter, Bette Davis, and Uta Hagen.

Tryon died in 1991. His literary executor later revealed that his death was related to his HIV-positive status, releasing the information in hopes of creating representation during a period of deep prejudice and silence surrounding the disease.
