Association copies have become a popular niche for book collectors searching for more unique, one-of-a-kind editions outside of standard limited editions.
In a November 15th, 2013, interview with Nathan Rostron of “Bookish,” Turow shared some of the inspiration for writing this title: “I wanted to write what I thought of as a sophisticated book about politics--about a decent person who's in politics, instead of a scumbag. I've always tooted my horn about campaign financing--and I never will stop until we change our system--and I wanted to write about the impact of money on politics.” In this same interview, Turow states, “I am a big believer in the fact that all authors really write only one book,” sharing an idea with the profound Gabriel García Márquez, quoted in The Paris Review, who stated, "I am not sure that I write anything but the same story over and over again."
Turow has stated that “Identical” is based on the Greek myth of Castor and Pollux, the twin demi-god half-brothers born to Leda from different fathers (Castor’s father being the king of Sparta, Tyndareus, with Zeus as the father of Pollux). Turow has mentioned “Round House” by Louise Erdrich and Tolstoy’s “Anna Karenina” as being his most recommended books, along with Patti Smith’s “Just Kids."
