Anne Rice is best known for her Vampire Chronicles, but she was also passionate about doll collecting. Over nearly two decades, Rice amassed a diverse collection of over 800 dolls from around the world, even creating a museum to showcase them. For a time, her collection was housed in her St. Elizabeth home, a former convent and orphanage that she renovated. In her debut novel, "Interview with the Vampire," the child vampire Claudia finds solace in a doll-shop owner. Her Mayfair Witches novel "Taltos" features a doll maker with preternatural abilities. Much of Rice's doll collection has since been auctioned off, with many pieces now residing at the spooky Grand Midway Hotel in Windber, Somerset County.
