A first edition, first printing in Fine condition with hints of shelf wear. From the private library of Anne Rice, to whom this book is signed and inscribed, in black felt, by the author Raymond Arroyo: “To Dear Anne – A constant inspiration and the first to show us that light can be found even in the darkness. With Christmas Blessings, Raymond G. Arroyo” – the signature ends with a small doodle of a spider. Includes a letter to Anne Rice, as of yet unopened, found in between the pages of this edition. A lovely gift for long time Anne Rice reader or collector. Rare, as a one of a kind copy.
This title is a play on the Eastern European Christmas Spider myth, of which there are many variations, and most often include an impoverished widow with her small children, who are unable to decorate their holiday tree. During the winter night, they are visited by a spider who weaves its silken strands along the tree, which prove to be silver and gold, saving the family from poverty.
