A handsome dark orange leather Limited First Edition signed by Nobel Prize-winning author, Isaac Bashevis Singer. With gold-gilt cover designs and page edges, and bound-in silk bookmark and all the Franklin Library publishing points for a lifetime of re-reads.
The celebrated Nobel Prize for Literature winner's final collection of short stories featuring a title story that portrays a nearly 1,000-year-old Methuselah exploring the underworld as his death nears. Singer has publicly referred to the Iliad and the Odyssey as models for his work, along with “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” and his writer brother, I. J. Singer, author of “The Brothers Ashkenazi.” He was not a fan of Aldous Huxley’s “Point Counter Point.” Singer preferred to write and publish first in Yiddish, though later his works were translated into English. In interviews, he spoke about the importance and value of keeping the Yiddish language alive.
