Some collectors have the Lord of the Rings trilogy, while others have Stephen E. Ambrose’s Nixon trilogy. This 1991 third and final installment delves into the life history of U.S. President Nixon. Preceded by “Nixon: The Education of a Politician” and “Nixon: The Triumph of a Politician,” this edition chronicles Nixon’s tenure during his 1972 re-election campaign, the Watergate scandal, and his eventual resignation. Ambrose also delves into the social and personal dimensions of Nixon’s life.
Notably, Nixon declined an interview for this book, although many of his aides and associates spoke to Ambrose. Despite Nixon’s concerns about a perceived “left-wing” bias, reviewers of the time generally found the coverage levelheaded.
Ambrose achieved acclaim for his biographies of U.S. Presidents Eisenhower and Nixon, as well as his profiles of generals Emory Upton and Henry Halleck. He penned many successful best sellers, including “Band of Brothers,” “Citizen Soldiers,” "Nothing Like It in the World," and “The Wild Blue."
