Signed by author/illustrator: "For Herb, early but worth it/ from Gary Trudeau." The signature is accentuated by one of the main characters enjoying a fairly substantial joint, emitting a cloud of smoke that gently drifts toward the signature. Trudeau personally dated this depiction as October 1975.

Trudeau's Doonesbury Chronicles, a politically charged counterculture comic strip, traced the life of a college student into old age and achieved the distinction of being the first comic to receive a Pulitzer Prize. Gerald Ford once stated, "There are only three major channels to keep us informed about Washington: the electronic media, the print media, and Doonesbury, not necessarily in that order."

Herb Yellin (who the book is inscribed to) was a major contributor to the world of book collectors. Books inscribed to Herb Yellin have quickly become sought after collector's editions.
