Rockwell Kent was a multifaceted individual with a diverse range of talents and interests. His accomplishments as a dairy farmer, artist, architect, explorer/sailor, political activist, and writer showcase his versatility. Kent's ability to excel in various fields is reminiscent of the Renaissance ideal of a well rounded individual.
Kent had a willingness to express criticisms of popular policies of his time. He encouraged artists and writers to be independent and commit to their convictions. The New York Times characterized him as a "thoughtful, troublesome, profoundly independent, odd and kind man."
His contribution to the art of book making in the United States further solidifies his place in literary history. Kent's unique signature, both as a writer and illustrator, has left a lasting imprint on the cultural landscape.
