Impressions of Bohemia

Carmel, CA: Pacific Rim Galleries, 1986. Limited Numbered First Edition. Saddle-sewn wrapper bound. Fine. Item #3643

A gorgeous and fascinating First Edition production, with a 14 page saddle-sewn wrapper bound commentary by Richard Dillon and 13 signed and numbered portrait etchings by Jack Coughlin, loose in separate gray wrappers, each with tissue guard and a one page commentary, tied together with original blue ribbon. Of the 13, one is a signed portrait etching of John Steinbeck with Artist's Proof notation making this a limited edition, with only 25 artist proof editions made. An admirable collection consisting of only 125 copies, this being # 73. Included is the original prospectus and an extra related information sheet photocopied on both sides. Encased in a gray cloth clamshell case with gilt lettered leather spine in fine condition with slight wear to corners and minor bump on rear panel edge. Commentary wrapper in fine condition save for a minute mark on the front cover, extremely faint. An incredible work. Beautiful portrait etchings of the most important "Carmel Bohemians" including Ansel Adams, Gertrude Atherton, Mary Austin, Robinson Jeffers, Sinclair Lewis, Jack London, Henry Miller, Lincoln Steffens, John Steinbeck, George Sterling, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Edward Weston. The set sold originally for $585 and the extra Artist's Proof could be purchased for an additional $115. Each portrait is in its own gray wrapper and each measures 11 1/4 x 10 1/4 inches.
