This is a previously unknown tale by Wilhelm Grimm discovered in 1983 in a letter Grimm wrote in 1816 and published in this book for the first time with beautiful illustrations by Maurice Sendak. It is the story of a little girl sent into the forest by her mother to protect her from a terrible war. She spends what she thinks are three days with an old man but when she returns home she discovers she has been gone for 30 years. And the rest of the story we leave to you.
