A handsome First Edition, Fourth Printing (so stated) inscribed by author, football player Gale Sayers, to book collector Wayne Martin on the half-title page: "To Wayne / Best Wishes / Gale Sayers," Introduction by Bill Cosby. The book was the inspiration for the successful 1971 ABC Movie of the Week, "Brian's Song" that explored the relationship between Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo, a fellow football player stricken with terminal cancer. Billy Dee Williams played Gale Sayers and James Caan played Brian zPiccolo. Bound in black and blue cloth & boards, the book is in fine condition but for minor lightening on the top edge which is dyed blue and Wayne Martin's owner signature on the front endpaper. The fine dustjacket is complete with the original price and is protected by an archival dustjacket. Miscellaneous newspaper clippings included in front endpaper.
