A beautiful Limited Numbered Edition bound in full leather with a leather slipcase accompanied by a framed and matted original watercolor; the limitation page is numbered "17" (of only 50 Deluxe)and is signed by the late Tony Hillerman, publisher and author Ernie Bulow and the late artist/illustrator Ernie Franklin. A stated first edition, first printing, the limitation page reads as follows: "Of the first printing of one thousand, Fifty copies and Five Artist's Proofs of Navajo Taboos have been signed and numbered, specially bound and slipcased with original art by Ernest Franklin." The book has many full-page black & white illustrations by Ernest Franklin, but the "original art" included with this edition is a beautiful watercolor by Franklin, a full-color watercolor of the illustration on page 96 showing a young Indian brave antagonizing, and then being chased by, a very fast bear. The watercolor measures 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" wide (visible), 12 1/2" x 10 3/4" wide in the frame and has been professionally double-matted, framed and provided with plexiglass with museum-quality materials that will protect this art well into the future.
