Originally published in 1957, this was the first book by Maurice Sendak as both author and illustrator. It is the story of a little boy frustrated that his mother is too busy to answer all of his questions so he gathers together the horse who wanted to dream, the cat who wanted to sing and the sparrow who wanted to eat crumbs from a King's plate, and they head to "Very Far Away" where everything would be perfect. In fine pictorial library binding with a fine dustjacket in plastic cover. Maurice Sendak has been awarded countless awards for illustration of children's books, including the Caldecott Medal, 1964 (for Where the Wild Things Are); Hans Christian Andersen International Medal, 1970; Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, 1983; Jewish Cultural Achievement Award, 1988; National Medal of Arts, 1996.
