A beautiful First Edition children's book signed by Ela Weissberger, (the "Cat" in the concentration camp performances) on the front free endpaper. Also includes a program signed by Ms. Weissberger from the 2007 Ashley Hall (Charleston, South Carolina) production of Brundibar featuring Ms. Weissberger as guest speaker. All illustrated by wonderful Sendak illustrations. In dark brown cloth and a complete colorful dustjacket, this is a beautiful copy with rare signatures. 56 pp. In the dustjacket summary, "Befriended by three intelligent talking animals and three hundred helpful schoolkids, brother and sister sing for the money, buy the milk, defeat the bully, and triumphantly return home." This opera was performed 55 times by the children of Terezin, the Nazi Concentration Camp. The talking cat in the opera story was played by Ela Weissberger who survived the camp and who has signed this book.
