Phillip Roth has been one of America's premier authors beginning with his first novel, "Goodbye Columbus" which was awarded the National Book Award for Fiction in 1960. Mr. Roth's other important literary works include "Portnoy's Complaint," "The Anatomy Lesson," "The Counterlife" (The National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction in 1987), "Operation Shylock" (The PEN/Faulkner Award in 1994), "Sabbath's Theater" (The National Book Award for Fiction in 1995), and "American Pastoral" which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for 1998.
